just a quickie

So we have arrived safe and sound in sunny Oz, there are journal inputs from the last few days that david is going to put online so you'll just have to be patient. This is just a quickie to say we are alive. Miss you all, lyd and david

The flight over was quite harsh, we checked in a bit late and so got poor seats then when we came to board a steward told came over and asked us why we were checking in again as he had already spoken to us. Strange. When we got on the plane we found our seats at the back of the plane with people already in them. It turns out they were the ones who had spoken to the steward and then they moved to different seats. We flew at 12:30PM UK time but arrived at 8:30AM Hong kong time so we were cramming 20 hours in to 12 and missing the night. Because of this I tried sleeping tablets which worked slightly lydia didn't have anything choosing instead to take advantake of the entertainment offered. I think that my stratergy worked better than hers as she had much bigger problems with jet lag.

Hong kong was pretty good but we were quite tired and so
didn't do too much. I wanted to go and see the pandas but by the time we got round to it it was too late. I think we saw most of the prerequisites although we didn't go up to the mountain. we did go on the ferry, the trams and took photos with hong kong island in the background.

The flight down to Oz was better as it was through the day. We were met by a taxi from lydias uni which took us to our hotel in Parramatta.
The next day lydia went to uni and i looked around, It has a fair size park, a nice river and almost a street of korean shops.
There are about 40 bamkins in the world (lydia's maiden name) so anyone with that name is related to lydia somehow, probably. We had been in contact with the australian representatives, Cedric and Pam. Who are related very distantly. Anyway you wouldn't have thought it the way they treated us. Cedric phoned up our hotel and arranged to
drive the 40km to pick us up and stay at their house. Then took us out for dinner (at Doyles, was that were you worked?), took us around sydney and generally treated us like their own grandchildren, which was nice. They then drove us to Penrith about 50km away and then just waited in a cafe while we looked for houses.
It took a few days to find a house we looked at quite a few all pretty similar and so we ended up getting one for $140 (about 60pounds) in werrington which is about 2km from penrith and 1km from lydias uni.
